Print Rich Environments

Many teachers are getting the year started with colorful, stimulating and thought provoking classroom environments. The walls are covered with posters that support learning. Messages about life, reading, thinking, and futures are pervasive in these classes. Quotes from famous people are up and inspiring students to reach their full potential. 

Ms. Garcia-Rios has set her re-takers up for success by creating an environment that leads to thinking and comprehending.

In her Intensive Reading classroom, Ms. Cole has created a bold and inviting sanctuary for her students to enjoy one of the many books she has put on display. On the wall behind the shelf, are the different genres available in her library.

By posting the active reading strategies of a good reader in a visible location, Ms. Cole is constantly keeping her students focused on the steps to take to comprehend the text they encounter.

Although there are not any words up yet, Ms. Cole has her wall ready for the "retired" vocabulary words to be posted for reference once they are no longer an active part unit to be used during classroom discussions and as the students write.
